Homeschooling

Homeschooling for the Webster family has been one of those up and down processes.  We have our good days and our bad days, but fortunately, the good outweigh the bad.  It is not for everyone.  It takes serious commitment and research before jumping in.  But it is a decision we are so glad we have made.

I get asked all the time what kind of curriculum we use for our kids.  It varies.  Each child learns completely different.  I do have a few staples that I love to use and recommend to everyone who asks.  So this page is a list of what we are currently using (or getting ready to use) for our schooling needs.

-Language Arts-

Get, Ready, Set for the Code:  This is perfect for PreK and Kindergarten.  There are three books, A, B, and C.  The books are printed in black and white with very simple drawings.  These are great for learning the alphabet and phonic sounds.  All of my kids have used these books.

Explode the Code Series:   This series is what got C reading.  The books are numbered 1-8 plus 1/2 books for added review.  I plan on using it with A as well.  I love the simple pictures and format.  The lessons are not time consuming and are easy to execute.  A will be starting this series in the fall.

Beyond the Code:  C has really enjoyed this series.  It has helped with her reading comprehension immensely.  The stories are simple, either you can read them or your child can read them.  There are four books in the series.

Shurley English:  This is a new english curriculum for us.  A will be starting level 1 in the fall.  I will add a review once we start on it.

Abeka Language A:  This is another new curriculum we are using this year with C.
